Chapter One. Foundations

BEGINNINGS ARE HARD. Transitions even more so, I think. For many of us, the notion that we might one day make our living through this craft we love so much is a hard one to shake. It’s an idea, a calling that we can’t let go. But that doesn’t make it an easy process. Hearing my story—and the stories of others—is a good place to start. Listening to the wisdom and mistakes of others always makes a good beginning. But you must first understand that the most foundational stuff is not anything you learned in photography school. The foundations are much rarer—vision, passion, and a broad perspective.
