A note about the terminology

The word ‘Library’.

Throughout this book you will find the term Library. This is used in its widest sense as meaning a facility where information is connected with users. In application this facility might be a school library, public library, archive, or the information centre for a corporation, government or business.

I have deliberately used this term as an alternative to others because to me it implies a human face to information provision. One alternate term, information agency, for example, tends to carry with it constructions of facelessness and soullessness.
