Chapter 9: Virtualizing Microsoft Remote Desktop Services
Remote Desktop Services enables multiple concurrent users to run several applications on a remote computer. In Windows Server 2008 R2, Microsoft renamed Terminal Services to Remote Desktop Services (RDS) and introduced access to virtual desktops in addition to the traditional session-based remote desktops. RDS encompasses the roles formerly under Terminal Services as well as a new role service to manage and automate access to virtual desktops in a virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
