Chapter 4: Virtualizing Active Directory

With the release of Windows 2000 Server, Microsoft established the Windows operating system as enterprise-worthy. There was a shift from the flat directory services that did not allow customization, could not scale to enterprise levels, and had inherent security issues. Active Directory Services resolves all of the shortcomings of the Windows NT operating system by allowing schema customizations, flexible design and deployment options, hierarchal framework, security, and better availability and recovery than its predecessor. With this new era in Microsoft directory services, many enterprises have deployed Active Directory Domain Services on physical hardware throughout the world.
