TETRIS (1985): CASUAL GAMING FALLS INTO PLACE

Alexey Pajitnov's Tetris, created and introduced to the United States in the mid-1980s, is perhaps the greatest videogame ever to come out of Russia—or arguably anywhere else in the world, for that matter. It has been endlessly cloned and ported for almost every viable platform, and is still widely played today on all manner of devices, including mobile phones. Tetris is also a useful illustration of two important principles of good game design. The first is that it's easy to learn, yet hard to master.
