Chapter 3. On-set Monitoring

You’ve Likely Heard the phrase “run and gun” when referring to production. This methodology says throw caution to the wind, turn on the camera, and shoot whatever with little regard to what you’re recording. Well, if you ever had to be on the postproduction end of a production that was shot this way, we feel your pain!

The fact is that cameras these days are capable of producing some beautiful images. But in our experience many shoots are troubled or in the worst-case scenario ruined because no one bothered to view and then adjust the image and sound. Embracing the “fix it in post” mentality is the kiss of death when it comes to a quality production.
