Changing Camera Height

There will be odd occasions when you need extreme heights such as worm’s-eye or bird’s-eye views, steep upward-angled shots, high viewpoints, but most situations require only modest height variations.

Pedestals

On some pedestals, the central column’s height is pre-adjusted with a hand-crank while off shot. More versatile are the lightweight pedestals with pneumatically balanced columns which are easily readjusted, even while shooting.

Remember, the pedestal’s column needs to be vertically balanced to suit the overall weight of the camera, viewfinder, prompter, and other accessories. Correct balance ensures height adjustments are smooth and easy. This may involve changing counter-balance weights or altering the gas pressure. ...
