The Pedestal

A pedestal orped’ is the workhorse of most larger studios. Basically, it is a central telescopic column of adjustable height, fixed to a three-wheeled base. Lightweight pedestals provide considerable shot flexibility, rapid height changes, and precision steering, even in confined spaces. The heaviest counterweighted types are cumbersome and limited by comparison.

Types of pedestal

Lightweight pneumatic tripods (‘PortaPed’, ‘Hydro-Ped’) are widely used in the field, especially for ENG/EFP productions.
