Week 5: Develop Your Brand (This Is the Fun Part)

When her dog tracked snow and mud all over her house one winter, Joanne needed a solution. She noticed the shag carpet–like material used at the carwash and thought that would make a perfect mat to soak up all the muck her dog brought in. After finding the manufacturer in China, she created her product and placed her first order. Her venture’s name tells you what the product is and her logo shows you exactly what it does. The colors she chose—light blue on a navy background—do a great job of reinforcing the watery theme. When you see her logo, you know it’s her and the Soggy Doggy Doormat.

When you see the swoosh, you think of Nike. When you see the yellow arches, you think of McDonald’s. ...
