All Paths Down (APD) A situation that can occur when an ESXi Host cannot access a storage path and the ESXi Host does not know if the storage device loss is going to be temporary or permanent.
Asymmetrical Logical Unit Access (ALUA) A SCSI standard in which one storage processor can send I/O (optimized path) to the LUN, but both controllers can receive I/O. The controller that cannot issue I/O is the non-optimized path.
ballooning A situation that occurs when the host’s memory begins to get low and it starts reclaiming memory not used by the virtual machines by leveraging the balloon driver (vmmemctl) to prevent itself from paging to disk.
baseline An ESXi Hosts patch or ESXi upgrade used for updating or upgrading and ESXi Host.
