Terms Used Daily

I have here listed some terms or words that you might hear daily in the course of your stay in the film and television business. A few of these terms may be exclusive to the grip department. But for the sake of giving you an overall flavor of a working set, I felt you should also be aware of some other general words that are used almost daily. For example, you’re a grip who is asked to work the “sticks” for the camera department. Or the AD yells, “Tail Slate!” Or you may hear something like, “Hey Sue, grab a Gary Coleman, with a postage stamp, and put an ear on the third zip light.” Or, “Lamp right next to the egg crate, then drop some beach on that hog trough before they pull the buck.” Without this Glossary you’d be ...
