6. Formatting Text with Styles

This chapter shows you how to work with styles in Word. Styles take most of the work out of formatting your text, and ensure that your documents have a consistent, professional look.

When you’re cranking out short, informal documents and great-looking formatting isn’t a big deal, then the manual text formatting tools covered in Chapter 4, “Character Formatting,” and Chapter 5, “Paragraph Formatting,” are probably all you need. For most day-to-day word processing chores, a simple template and a little bold or italic can give you nice-looking results without a lot of hassles.
