Local Web Servers

Some people prefer to develop their website locally on their computer, then migrate it to their web host when complete. For some, this is much faster than developing it on a remote server since you do not have to rely on the speed of your Internet connection when interacting with the website. Whether you are on a Windows machine or a Mac, there is a solution for you. For Windows, use XAMP, and for Mac, use MAMP.

Once either solution is installed, you will find that you have an Apache/MySQL/PHP web server on your computer ready for you to start building your Joomla website. After the website is developed, you can easily move it from your local web server to your web host. Refer to Site Backup/Migration: Perform Backups and Migrate Your Site Using JoomlaPack for instructions on moving your website from one server to another.
