In this chapter, you learn how to format characters and paragraphs and how to insert footnotes, drop caps, tab stops, and special characters.

What exactly is formatting? Is it the same as applying character and paragraph styles? The answer is yes and no. Formatting is the process used to alter the look of type on the page—something that in the old days, before desktop publishing, we called typesetting.
