Chapter 14 Power Protection

Power-protection systems do just what the name implies: They protect equipment from the effects of power surges and power failures. In particular, power surges and spikes can damage server and client PC hardware, and a loss of power can result in lost data or, at the very least, lost productivity. Because servers store data used by departments or entire companies, the threat of data loss looms potentially much larger than even hardware damage. These threats to computer hardware and equipment correspond to three major types of power protection for servers:
