CHAPTER 12

Gather Inspiration

Inspiration comes to the designer in many forms. First, we must analyze the play, so we understand the inner workings of the particular play. In this analysis process, we engage deeply with the playwright’s work, which stimulates the seeds of potential designs. Then we gather visual inspiration to help us translate ideas gleaned from the play into a visual form.

We will be in our Detective persona throughout this inspiration process, which reminds us to search deeply and broadly for ideas and images that will feed our designs.
