Fallacies about the Design Process

There are several misconceptions people might have about the design process. Each of these regularly shows its head in my design classroom.

ON THE QUESTION OF PROCESS

Fallacy: The design process is linear.

In reality, the design process requires repeated loops backwards and leaps forward. It is elliptical—it keeps folding back on itself. The process is not linear, and no one step is ever truly finished, unless it is opening night.
