The Benefits of Windows Anytime Upgrade
With previous Windows versions, the only way to upgrade from one edition to the other in the same product family was to go back to the store, purchase the upgrade edition, and go through an upgrade installation. It was an expensive and time-consuming process, and for nonretail versions of Windows, such as Windows XP Media Center Edition or Windows XP Tablet Edition, no upgrades to a better version were available.
