Techniques for Providing High Availability

Over the years, system administrators have developed a number of techniques for ensuring high availability. You can apply many of these techniques to your own Unix system environment—in fact, you may already be familiar with some of them. The three most important techniques that system administrators use to provide highly available systems are redundancy, failover, and load balancing.
