Chapter 11

Case Study 1

The following chapter is a case study documenting how Oracle created measureable business results by ignoring generational stereotypes. As an organizational development consultant at Oracle, I consult with business leaders to create solutions in organizational effectiveness. In this example, I partnered with two other consultants (Kristian and Brent) to build a training program. We were asked to create a training program for millennial, recent college graduates to address generational issues. First we conducted a thorough needs analysis to understand what was really going on. We then created a training program based on the findings. Finally we conducted a full return on investment (ROI) analysis, conducted six months after the training. In the process we identified three business results created by our program, including:

  1. Increased employee productivity for new hires and managers.
  2. Increased intention to stay with the company.
  3. Increased employee engagement and job satisfaction for new hires and managers.

Throughout this chapter, we reference both millennials and generation Y—they are the same.
