Satellite Navigational Systems

There are many major primary satellite navigation systems as on date. Some of them are global while others are regional. A couple of them are fully operational while the rest are either partially operative or about to come up very soon. These systems are namely:
1. Global Positioning System (GPS) of USA;
2. Global Navigation Satellite System (GLONASS) of Russia;
3. GALILEO of the European Union;
4. QZSS of Japan (GPS complementary);
5. COMPASS of China; and
6. IRNSS of India
Out of these, the QZSS and IRNSS are regional systems while other are global. The important features of these systems are mentioned below.
