External Communications Business Model

The purpose of this section is to briefly discuss some of the business models presently being adopted for external corporate communications. These will be addressed from two perspectives:

  • Business-to-business

  • Business-to-consumer

Business-to-Business

The main business driver for business-to-business communications is to provide secure and cost-effective inter-organizational communications. Although this may seem to be a rather obvious statement, ubiquitous business-to-business interaction is not guaranteed. Solid business drivers must be in place to motivate corporations (or governments) to interconnect their PKI domains. To many, this falls under the general umbrella of secure electronic commerce.
