Chapter 24. Typical Business Models

Part III, "Deployment Considerations," concentrates on PKI deployment considerations in an enterprise context. This chapter discusses several different business models that might drive the deployment of a PKI. Although this may not be an exhaustive list, we do concentrate on some of today's more prevalent business models, as evidenced by many of the PKI deployments around the globe.

There are also several initiatives designed to offer scalable inter-domain trust paths between organizations. Because these initiatives may have an influence on the external communications business model described here, this chapter also gives a brief discussion regarding these initiatives.
