Summary
This chapter has discussed the role of standards as well as the importance of complementary interoperability profiles and interoperability testing to fully realize the benefits of a given set of standards.
There are a number of interoperability initiatives that will help to establish useful and interoperable products from multiple PKI and CA vendors, including ANX, Bridge CA demonstration, MISPC, NACHA, PKIX, and SIRCA.
Pilot activities such as these are instrumental in demonstrating that many of the PKI vendors are collaborating to offer better levels of service that will respond to the market demand, and that these vendors will be able to provide interoperable products in complex and heterogeneous environments.
