Summary
This chapter has provided a brief overview of where the standards are now and the directions in which they are currently going. With respect to PKI and PKI-related standards, an impressive list of work products has already achieved consensus and stability within the formal organizations, and all indications are that many of these will also enjoy widespread adoption across the industry (largely because so many of the major PKI-related companies have had active participation in the creation of these specifications).
