Current Standardization Status

This section discusses the documents that have reached some level of stability and standardization within PKI-relevant standards groups.

X.509

X.509 is an International Standard [X.509]. It has reached the highest level of standardization within ISO/ITU-T and, therefore, is considered to be a stable document. However, there is a formal defect reporting system whereby errors, editorial corrections, or clarifications can be incorporated into the standard through an amendment process. Such an amendment is currently underway, but this includes primarily clarifying material and minor editorial modifications to the base text on certificates and CRLs.
