Understanding Public-Key Infrastructure: Concepts, Standards, and Deployment Considerations

Working Group 8 of Sub-Committee 2 of Technical Committee 68 in ISO (ISO TC68/SC2/WG8, referred to here simply as TC68) is concerned with standardizing aspects of public-key technology, primarily for the use and purposes of the financial industry [TC68]. This working group, like PKIX, has profiled the X.509 certificate and CRL structures for the particular needs of its focus environment. To that end, it has specified the optional or mandatory, critical or non-critical status of the X.509-defined extensions (see Chapters 6 and 8 for further details on the certificate and CRL extension mechanism). It has also defined new extensions required to meet the unique needs of the financial sector.
