The trust model is an integral part of PKI architecture and operation. This chapter has given a brief introduction to four different trust models in use today, highlighting their similarities and differences.

Choosing the correct trust model (and its corresponding level of security) for the environment to be protected is of critical importance and is one of the early and fundamental decisions to be made when deploying a PKI.
