3  The Musical Message and the Listener

This chapter begins discussing the content of the musical message that appears in greater detail in Chapter 17—the last chapter of this book. There will also be initial coverage of how aesthetic and artistic elements function in communicating the message of a piece of music. These lay the groundwork for Parts Two and Three.
