10.11. Transformation of the Finance Organization

In recent years, many finance organizations adopted an enterprise resource planning (ERP) system. This implementation required Finance to reengineer its processes by increasing standardization and, in many cases, centralizing activities. The ERP systems were designed to drive the retirement of multiple systems, spreadsheets, and databases. However, technology never stands still. New and improved technology is always over the horizon. To stay abreast with the marketplace, companies should continuously evaluate their ERP systems, pursue other technology solutions that complement ERP, and, in many instances, replace certain functionality within their system.
