12.5. IT and Sustainability
As stated earlier, one of CA's sustainability alignment factors is revenue generation. Accordingly, one aspect of CA's sustainability program focuses on taking what we've learned about sustainability, mapping that to our IT management core competencies, and figuring out how we can best help our customers become more sustainable.
IT consumes about 1.5% of the generation capacity of the U.S. The EPA projects that this percentage will rise as data center consumption needs outpace the country's generation capacity. If state-of-the-art efficiencies and operations within the data center are employed, IT consumption may peak at 2–4% in the near term.[]
