Chapter 12. Governance and Sustainability

The worlds of management and IT are filled with unlikely terms that come to embody a particular subject matter. Such is the case with the word sustainability. According to the 1987 Report of the World Commission on Environment and Development, sustainability means "meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."[] This chapter is all about the idea of sustainability, which means sustaining your resources, both natural and human, and how an organization can benefit by reconsidering its processes to maximize profits, reduce costs, and minimize its environmental imprint.
