A forum at the Millstein Center for Corporate Governance and Performance at Yale University's School of Management included discussions on the role of Boards in general and the role of Boards with respect to the financial meltdown in particular. We took a look at risk management, compensation practices, and shareholder protection. We talked about many of the things discussed in this chapter. Several people mentioned that we (CA's Board of Directors) have taken very aggressive action to achieve good governance. One person commented, "You've gone a long way on addressing governance. It might be hard for other organizations to go that far, but you had a near-death experience and that's why you went there." ...
