Many forces drive the need for IG. Let's examine some of the major drivers.

Heavy regulatory and legislative pressures. Many industries have become accustomed to heavy regulations. For example, in the U.S., the financial industry has long been governed by Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) regulations. Similarly, the pharmaceutical industry has long been subject to FDA regulations in the U.S. and to EudraLex (the rules governing medicinal products in the European Union) in Europe.
