Purpose of Development

Development can be thought of as having two purposes: to increase knowledge or to increase skills expertise. Traditionally, development activities have focused on increasing knowledge. The 1990s saw a strong movement to more closely connect development activities with performance outcomes, thereby refocusing on increasing knowledge in order to increase skills and expertise.
