Chapter 5. The Organization in Crisis: Turning Danger into Opportunity

No matter what kind of an organizational context you may be leading, it’s almost certain that you will have to contend with a major crisis at some time. When it arrives, you must take charge yourself no matter what style you may have employed before. A crisis needs quick and decisive action that only you as the leader can provide.

In this chapter, I describe the context of leading in a crisis using several examples, some of which were handled well and some of which were botched. It may come as a surprise, but I also describe how a crisis can be turned into an opportunity to move the organization forward more quickly than it would have moved without the crisis.
