BUTTING LIGHTWEIGHT LETTERS up against heavyweight ones, or changing color, while using one size within a single type family allows words to be combined that might otherwise need a letter space. Within a single word, two (or more) ideas can coexist yet also be separate, with distinctly different emphasis. This is a display-only design solution that has been used successfully in many arenas.

If the needs of the content can be served with the use of different members of a broad-based type family, it is almost always better to do so.
