THE PAGE98 Framing the text

LOOKING AT THE TEXT as a unit, how much space should be allowed around the edges of the page, and between two pages? Classical proportions such as the golden section rectangle are often used in book design, and magazines and newspapers have conventions all their own (generally there is not as much space devoted to framing the text in these). In web design, space is even at a greater premium, with margins that are almost nonexistent.
