Making this Book

Of all the questions I am asked when lecturing about design, “How does a book get made?” has become one of the more popular. Producing a book requires coordinated efforts between the book’s publisher, writer, and in this case, design contributors. The second question I get asked the most is, “What advice can you give to designers who want to write?” Practice and patience can go a long way. Working with good editors early on also helps. And make as much time to read as you do to write—if that’s possible.
