Q. What do you consider good typography?

KOMMERELL: I think it has to do with the overall aesthetic. I’m not saying that it has to be clean, but it has to fit together in a consistent and meaningful way. Very often it’s whether the use of positive and negative space works well together as an integrated whole. This happens probably more on a subconscious level for me, but it definitely plays a role. Typography is a lot about the form and, in a way, harmony; but it can be disharmonious and can be beautiful as well.
