Summary

TPs can be used to enhance confidence in platforms by improving platform authentication, platform integrity, data storage, and privacy. Further details about these mechanisms are given in Part 2 of this book.

TPs improve platform security by adding roots of trust that contain the functions that must be trustworthy if a platform is to be trusted. These roots of trust are low cost and are defined in an open specification, so they can be ubiquitous. In contrast, platforms with conventional cryptographic co-processors are relatively expensive, customized, and do not provide a root of trust in the platform.

The key benefits of the new trust mechanisms in TP technology are listed in the following table.
