Summary

Storage capacity and overcommitment can cause us major issues and problems. This can easily be prevented by following some of the recommendations in this chapter. Keeping a close eye on our thin-provisioned disks and snapshots can go miles in ensuring that we always have enough capacity for vSphere to run efficiently. If we do encounter a capacity issue, apart from removing unwanted files, we can use the techniques to grow or extend our datastores to provide more capacity. Apart from setting up the alarms explained in this chapter, we can also prevent a storage capacity issue from occurring by leveraging Storage DRS inside our environments to proactively monitor the space utilization of our datastores and balance capacity as needed.
