Summary

In this chapter, we identified the components that are part of the XenDesktop/XenApp infrastructure and briefly discussed the role of each component in a site deployment and how they interact with each other.

To better understand where each component is used, we described the process of starting a published application and how each component comes into play.

We discussed the two main scenarios—accessing resources in an internal network and accessing resources externally using NetScaler Gateway.

We mentioned the communication channels (protocols and ports) used by the main components such as Receiver, the ICA/HDX protocols, and we provided the full list of ports and protocols used by the XenDesktop/XenApp services.
