Building Strength via Communities of Practice and Project Management

Successful implementation of introducing a Six Sigma method to an organization works best when coupled with two other tactics: 1) strengthening the approach with solid project management (PM) fundamentals and competencies and 2) leveraging communities of practice to embed the concepts into daily work.

Project management improves a Six Sigma deployment by expanding the toolset to better manage a project. Nine knowledge areas and project-lifecycle concepts reinforce and fortify 1) the balanced-focus on the customer requirements (the process or item of interest) and 2) the project perspective of how to deliver the requirements.
