An FMEA helps you to

Identify what could go wrong.

Analyze the magnitude of potential risk associated with a possible problem or failure event.

Prioritize the potential problems based on a three-fold approach integrating the ability to detect their occurrence, their likelihood of occurrence, and potential severity of impact if they do happen.

Document an action plan if the failure event occurs, particularly those posing the biggest risk.
