ABOUT THE AUTHOR

Frank Wander is a former Fortune 250 chief information officer (CIO) and founder of the IT Excellence Institute, a social enterprise dedicated to the notion that IT can be a high-performing, flourishing part of any corporation. After spending many years transforming failed or failing IT divisions, Frank realized that the root cause of failure was cultures where socially corrosive and antisocial behaviors were prevalent. To turn these organizations around, he nurtured the human factors of productivity (trust, caring, collaboration, transparency, meaning, etc.) and blended these with IT best practices, creating a potent recipe for success.

Prior to starting the institute, Frank was the CIO at Guardian Life Insurance Company of America for more than five years, transforming the culture and capability of IT to deliver business projects on time and on budget across 90 percent of its portfolio. Before joining Guardian, Frank was the CIO for the Harry Fox Agency, where he led the company’s IT team in the turnaround of a failed technology transformation initiative. Frank also served as CIO of Prudential Institutional, was president of an Internet start-up, and spent many years at Merrill Lynch in leadership roles spanning both IT and client services.
