Chris McCaw (b. 1971) came to photography through his involvement with the skateboarding, zine, and punk scenes during the mid-to-late 1980s. While completing his BFA (1995) at the Academy of Art College in San Francisco, McCaw was introduced to the phenomenon of solarization (tonal reversal)—a process that would later become a key component for his series and book Sunburn (2007–2012)—by Jerry Spagnoli.
