Tuckman and Jensen (1977) used a rather limited research study to describe a five-part model of team building that—while not necessarily predictive or linear in all cases—has become enormously popular with both educators and practitioners. The stages of forming, storming, norming, performing, and adjourning capably describe the challenges that team members face as they learn to work together.
