Stage 4: Training

After assembly of the training materials, the next stage of the model is the actual training. This is the stage in which we begin to sense what effect the training will have on the original performance problem. In the Transfer Design Model, some training factors (goal setting versus self-management, and realistic overview versus optimistic overview) were included in the systemic design factors because they need to be incorporated into the design of training.

The timing of the actual training can affect the trainees' transfer of skills. For best results, consider the following issues when scheduling employee training:

  • Will the organization climate support the use of new skills?

  • Will the work flow allow for the use of new skills? ...
