Chapter Summary

A simple and highly effective five-step on-the-job training cycle has been presented in this chapter—a training delivery procedure that you easily can teach any trainer and trainee. Trainees assume a self-directed role in training, taking responsibility for their own learning; and trainers remain responsible for delivering effective training.

Without a step-by-step training delivery procedure, training will not be consistent; trainers likely will not stay focused on what trainees need to know versus what it might be nice to know; and training will suffer as a result. Chances are good, also, that nobody will know exactly why trainees don’t perform well. After all, “They have been trained, haven’t they?”
